I’m going back to Charleston, where there is still a little grace and civility left in the world.
— Rhett Butler to Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind

A rich history, a stylish scene, and a charming genteel spirit make Charleston one of the country’s most irresistible cities. If the grand plantations and stately colonial homes don’t lure you (locals say the cityscape looks like it has been painted in watercolor), then perhaps the booming dining scene, we-want-everything shops, and wish-we-lived-here hotels will. Anyways here is the story

We started our trip from good ole Indiana around 11 pm, I always liked driving at night mainly just because i hate traffic. Well in doing that I figured out why the Smokies are call such. Straight through to Knoxville no issues then came the fog. 300 miles of it, curvy mountain roads, tunnels, Semis who don't know what steep grades mean, But i honestly wouldn't trade if for anything.

It's peaceful driving at night plus it's always a surprize driving back though in the daylight. Over all the drive there was pretty boring, Sarah was snoozing because she had worked all day, the only real adrenaline pumping moment was the gas stations being closed right before the Kentucky/Tennessee border so not fun when you need gas.

But as the sun was coming up in the Smokie mountains i found a gas station whew. Fast forward....

We made it to the hotel with a couple hours to spare before check in so what do you do? You go to the ocean! Sarah had never seen the ocean and that was priority number one. I'll never forget the face she made when she walked out on the folly beach pier, So after a ten hour drive, exhaustion, no real food yet it was time to eat. Enter Pier 101 oh man was it needed. Any food would've worked but sheesh this place was fun. If you wind up here at this beach, go here, get the grouper bites.

5 Hours later we were on our way to check in. All loaded in and needing supplies and food(because food is awesome) next up Mellow Mushroom we ate way too much and turns out that some good local craft beer, a calzone the size of my torso and being up for 18 hours in the sun and on the road does something to you, needless to say i was asleep by 7:30 and i guess we went to wal-mart. I really don't remember it :)

Day 2 Isle of palms, Sullivan Island, Charleston coming soon
